Fault Analysis

Purchase Quintic Cricket

The fault analysis examples given below should be implemented to both coach and player via the Quintic analysis system. This system, which is demonstrated on the Quintic Analysis page, is used to visually highlight strengths or weaknesses in the player's technique.

The examples given below are key areas to look for in fault correction.

Bowled and LBW (Hitting across the line)

IN GENERAL

  • Picking bat up towards gully too much.
  • Picking bat up behind leg stump.
  • Opening leading shoulder too early in shot.
  • Turning leading shoulder too much so that you become too far sideways on or too open.
  • Too much bottom hand during backswing.
  • Eyes not level, so tipping towards the off side and getting stuck on the crease.
  • Collapsing leading elbow during straight-batted shots.

FRONT FOOT

  • When going forward you put your front foot too far sideways, bending your front knee, picking bat up behind leg stump. This causes you to take too small a stride and also to walk out of your crease off balance.

BACK FOOT

  • Not getting eyes and head into line and going back and across to cover your stumps (leg and middle).Opening leading shoulder too early in shot.
  • Back foot not parallel to the crease, so body position is square on. This causes hitting across the line.

Caught in the slips or gully area

IN GENERAL

  • Picking bat up behind the leg stump or too far outside off stump.
  • Playing at balls too wide of the off stump.
  • Trying to hit straight balls too square of the wicket on the off side.

FRONT FOOT

  • Not putting your foot to the ball.

BACK FOOT

  • Not getting back and across in line with the ball.
  • Falling away as you play the shot.
  • Collapsing elbow too early during the shot.
