AIM: TO HIT THE BALL JUST IN FRONT OF COVER POINT
BACKSWING, AND STEPPING BACK AND ACROSS
As the bowler is about to deliver the ball
1. With a dominant top hand and relaxed bottom hand, pick up bat over off stump, open bat face slightly.

2. From sideways position, dip head and shoulder towards the ball. Push off front leg, step back and further across crease than normal towards the line of the ball. You will never get your eyes directly behind the line of the ball, because it is too wide of the off stump.

3. Plant back foot parallel to the crease, bend back leg slightly and turn your leading shoulder towards cover point. Tuck your bottom hand into body, holding handle of bat firmly in palm of hand.

EXECUTING THE CUT SHOT
Think! From a high backswing, hit the ball downwards
4. From top of backswing, tuck your bottom arm into your body. Pull the bat back horizontally behind your rear shoulder and SWING the bat towards the ball.

5. Strike the ball level with your rear shoulder, with the full face of the bat. Keep weight on back foot, but directed towards cover point.

6. Complete follow-through with arms swinging over leading shoulder and chest still pointing at cover point.

DO NOT CUT STRAIGHT, SHORT-PITCHED
DELIVERIES THAT ARE CLOSE TO YOUR BODY.
ONLY CUT BALLS WIDE OF OFF STUMP
